ENTROPY DEFEATED
For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it, in hope
Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day.
And: ” You, LORD, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth,
And the heavens are the work of Your hands.
They will perish, but You remain;
And they will all grow old like a garment;
Like a cloak You will fold them up,
And they will be changed.
But You are the same,
And Your years will not fail.”
God never ceases to amaze me. Even in my science class (I’m an undergraduate) His word came alive. We were learning about energy and the laws that are associated with it (thermodynamics), my notes were full of things being taught as well as there place or possible connection to the scriptures. When my teacher went over Entropy, what came to light will stick with me forever.
Entropy, simply put (by my Biology teacher)- “The whole universe is bent towards chaos.” Entropy is a concept that describes the laws of energy on a microscopic level, Here is an excerpt and quote from HyperPhysics.edu that gives a good example of entropy with a larger scale…
“One of the ideas involved in the concept of entropy is that nature tends from order to disorder in isolated systems. This tells us that the right hand box of molecules happened before the left.” R. Nave
So what does this have to do with energy? Well, let’s put it this way…
In order to clean up the pile of bricks tossed off the truck in the diagram, it would take up energy (from your body) but after a serious amount of time, no amount of energy could keep the bricks nicely stacked, they would have broken down and slowly joined the dirt under them, becoming dust. Every cell and every substance will some day decompose and lose its energy, even the great stars of the universe die.
Proverbs 27:20 “Death and Destruction are never SATISFIED, and neither are human eyes.”
This explains the concept of entropy, there will never be enough to sustain life and order. The bible pretty much named entropy before any scientist on earth, it was first named the grave or sheol…
Proverbs 30:16 “There are three things that will not be satisfied, Four that will not say, “Enough”: Sheol (the grave), and the barren womb, Earth that is never satisfied with water, And fire that never says, “Enough.””
But we know that life in this world was not always meant to have a law or concept of entropy, that the universe wasn’t always doomed for chaos…
Genesis 3:1-4 ESV “Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?” 2 And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, 3 but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’” 4 But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die.”
For You will not abandon my soul to Sheol; Nor will You allow Your Holy One to undergo decay.
Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day.
BECAUSE YOU WILL NOT ABANDON MY SOUL TO HADES, NOR ALLOW YOUR HOLY ONE TO UNDERGO DECAY.
He who is too impoverished for such an offering Selects a tree that does not rot; He seeks out for himself a skillful craftsman To prepare an idol that will not totter.
“Sell your possessions and give to charity; make yourselves money belts which do not wear out, an unfailing treasure in heaven, where no thief comes near nor moth destroys.
We all know how the story goes and how it ends. The fall of man. But enough of gettin all “spooky”. The word of God didn’t just give us a bunch of history that doesn’t help us today. God answered the law of entropy with God’s own son, crushing the head of the snake that caused it in the first place! (Genesis 3:15)
1 Samuel 2:6 “The Lord kills and brings to life;
he brings down to Sheol and raises up.”
I do not think it was random that Jesus chose to crush the head of our enemy Satan (as it was prophesied in Genesis 3:15). The meaning there is simple but very powerful. The head of the serpent represents the mind of the enemy, who was so crafty and subtle, he deceived the first man and woman into bringing death, the grave or entropy if you will, into paradise.
Satan’s deceptive powers have been crushed! And through Christ’s resurrection entropy has been defeated. “Entropy’s been defeated, and death couldn’t hold you down.” (a play on words of one of my favorite worship songs). So when your going about your day, keep it tucked in the back of your mind, that the resurrection power of Christ lives in you and that chaos, that entropy holds no power over a child of the King. Amen ❤ ❤
Romans 8:5 “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. 3 For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh,could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh,“

1 John 2:15-17Do not love the world nor the things in the world If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever.
